September 18, 2025 Newsletter
This week we prepare for the Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost and the third week of the Season of Creation: “ACT.” Worship on September 21 will be led by the Rev. Joy Warburton (celebrant) and the Rev. Weston Mathews (preacher) at both the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services, with the choir singing at 10:00. Coffee Hour follows each service, and the 10:00 service is livestreamed.
The parish continues to celebrate milestones, including altar flowers donated in thanksgiving for Jeff Sanders’ birthday. We also pray for several children and young adults preparing for Holy Baptism this fall.
Key announcements and events include:
A special ordination service on September 20, where Joy Warburton, Kara Laughlin, and Anne Kristine Rose will be ordained to the priesthood.
Outreach opportunities such as the Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event on September 26, calling for 90 volunteers, and Second Story Sunday dinners.
Bishop Isaac of Ezo sending thanks for St. Francis’ continued support of refugees from Tambura, South Sudan.
The Deacon’s Corner highlighting participation in the Diocese of Virginia’s Racial Justice & Healing Pilgrimage the week of September 22, with prayers invited for daily Compline during the journey.
A Sunday Forum on September 28 with the Rev. Linda Calkins leading a labyrinth walk, offering reflection and prayer.
Preparations for the Fall Marketplace on October 18, including bake sale workshops, silent auction baskets, and a special art exhibit from local artist Elizabeth Bertholon.
A Save-the-Date for January 11, 2026: celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Creche Preschool with a youth-focused service and luncheon.
Regular ministries such as prayer groups, Bible studies, men’s and women’s fellowship, and social hours continue to provide spaces for connection and growth.
