Outreach
Serving Our Community with Compassion & Faith
At St. Francis, outreach is more than a ministry, it’s how we live our faith in the world. Guided by Christ’s call to love our neighbors, we engage in hands-on service, charitable giving, and partnerships that uplift individuals and families both locally and globally.
St. Francis Episcopal Church has always had an active Outreach program of helping others locally, nationally, and internationally. An Outreach Committee meets throughout the year to discuss Outreach projects, such providing food for the homeless or furnishing homes for refugees, and to plan fundraisers and hands-on projects.
We welcome you to join us in making a meaningful difference.
For more information about any of these opportunities, contact the church office.

Diocese of Ezo, South Sudan
St. Francis has had a relationship with the Diocese of Ezo in a remote part of South Sudan for more than 25 years. In a place of great poverty and violence, the faithful Christians of Ezo pray for our church, and we pray for them and help them with their building projects, schools, and more. St. Francis is currently focused on helping the people of Ezo realize their dream of building a high school. Learn more about the Ezo Diocese and read the latest report from Bishop Isaac in South Sudan.

Meals for Those in Need
Members of St. Francis, including Scouts, gather regularly to make sandwiches and sack lunches that are delivered to the Embry Rucker Community Shelter in Reston. It takes just a short amount of time and lots of enthusiastic help to provide meals for our neighbors in need.

Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota
This project involves supporting the Episcopal Mission Church at Pine Ridge by knitting warm mittens, scarves, and socks that are sent to help the residents, who struggle with the brutal South Dakota winters. We also send coats, sweaters, and even funds to help these Christians.

Rise Against Hunger
St. Francis hosts one or two Rise Against Hunger events annually. For one evening, 100 people from the church and community gather to pack 15,000 to 20,000 meals, which are then shipped immediately across the country or across the world to some of the neediest populations.

Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington
St. Francis was one of the founding churches of Samaritan Ministry, which helps the homeless and poor in downtown DC and in some of the nearby suburbs. We continue to support their work through fundraising and a special effort at Christmas.

Second Story
St. Francis supports Second Story’s homeless teen shelter in Fairfax County by providing meals on Sunday evenings for residents and counselors. We also hold a school supplies drive in late summer to gather supplies for children whose families cannot support them.
