This week St. Francis prepares for the Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost and the Fourth Sunday of the Season of Creation: Advocate. Worship on September 28 will be led at 8:00 a.m. by the Rev. E. Weston Mathews and the Rev. Joy Warburton, and at 10:00 a.m. with the St. Francis Choir, followed by Coffee Hour.
The parish is celebrating recent milestones, including Joy Warburton’s ordination at St. John’s. She shared heartfelt thanks for the prayers, love, and support she received from the congregation.
Key announcements and events include:
Rise Against Hunger: St. Francis will host a community-wide event on September 26 to package more than 20,000 meals, needing 90 volunteers.
Healing Prayers at Communion: Beginning in October, prayers for healing will be offered during Communion at both services on the first and third Sundays.
Sunday Forum – September 28: The Rev. Linda Calkins will lead a labyrinth walk with prayer beads, limited to 12 participants.
Have Mercy Formation Series: A five-week program beginning October 1 with Dr. Kyle Lambelet at Virginia Theological Seminary.
Feast of St. Francis – October 5: Special Blessing of the Animals service at 5:00 p.m. in the churchyard.
Sunday School: Launches October 12 at 10:00 a.m., with a call for new teachers.
Living with Grief: Support group meets October 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary.
Fall Marketplace – October 18: Featuring artists Elizabeth Freire and Elizabeth Bertholon, with exhibits, art, and games for children.
Tables for Eight-ish: Relaunching in October as a way to build fellowship in small group dinners.
