July 4, 2024 Newsletter
As summer unfolds, we give thanks for God’s abundant blessings and share exciting news for the future of our parish. The Vestry and Discernment Committee are delighted to introduce the Rev. E. Weston Mathews as the new Priest-in-Charge, effective September 2, 2024. A lifelong Episcopalian with deep roots in Virginia, Fr. Weston comes to us from Grace Episcopal Church, The Plains. His first Sunday at St. Francis will be September 8, with a welcome reception following the 10:00 service.
We also celebrate the flourishing of parish life. On June 21, the St. Francis Women’s Group hosted its inaugural tea, a joyful gathering of fellowship, food, and conversation. Looking ahead, the Women’s Group will play an important role in parish events, including the upcoming Fall Marketplace on October 19.
Service and outreach remain central to our mission. St. Francis will host a Rise Against Hunger event on October 4 to package 15,120 meals for children and families around the world. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate in this hands-on effort to combat food insecurity.
In addition, parishioners are invited to step into new ministries. Worship leaders, ushers, chalice bearers, and children’s chapel assistants are needed for both the 8:00 and 10:00 services. Training is provided, and all are welcome to serve.
Regular offerings of prayer and study continue through the summer, including Morning & Evening Prayer, Contemplative Prayer, the Men’s Group, and Thursday Bible Study, most of which are accessible via Zoom. Fellowship opportunities such as the St. Francis Social Hour and Second Story Dinners invite parishioners to remain connected in spirit and service.
Closing:
With new leadership, growing ministries, and renewed commitment to outreach, St. Francis continues to thrive as a community rooted in worship, service, and fellowship.
